Rules for using MentionFox responsibly
Last updated: April 2026
Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") is part of the MentionFox Terms of Service and defines what constitutes acceptable and prohibited use of the MentionFox platform. By using MentionFox, you agree to comply with this policy.
Permitted Use
MentionFox is designed for legitimate business activities including:
- Social listening — monitoring public conversations about your brand, industry, or competitors across social media and web platforms.
- Lead generation — discovering and enriching potential business contacts from publicly available information.
- Competitive intelligence — analyzing publicly available competitor activity and market positioning.
- People intelligence — researching publicly available professional information about business contacts.
- Business outreach — sending legitimate, personalized business communications to relevant contacts.
Prohibited Use
You may not use MentionFox to:
- Send spam — send unsolicited bulk email, mass-blast identical messages, or violate CAN-SPAM, GDPR e-marketing rules, or equivalent anti-spam laws.
- Harass or stalk — monitor, track, or contact individuals for the purpose of harassment, intimidation, or stalking.
- Discriminate — use enrichment or people intelligence data to discriminate against individuals based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics.
- Breach platform terms — use MentionFox in ways that violate the terms of service of monitored platforms (e.g., scraping private content, bypassing access controls).
- Impersonate — misrepresent your identity or create outreach that impersonates another person or organization.
- Collect sensitive data — deliberately collect or process special categories of data (health, biometric, political, religious) through MentionFox features.
- Resell data — redistribute, resell, or sublicense raw data obtained through MentionFox to third parties as a data product.
- Abuse API or system resources — circumvent rate limits, create multiple accounts to evade restrictions, or deliberately overload MentionFox infrastructure.
- Illegal activity — use MentionFox for any activity that violates applicable local, national, or international law.
Outreach Rules
When using MentionFox's outreach features (Dealflow sequences, email campaigns), you must:
- Only contact individuals with a legitimate business reason and relevant context.
- Include a clear way for recipients to opt out of future communications.
- Honor opt-out requests promptly (within 10 business days).
- Not send more than a reasonable volume of outreach per day. We recommend starting with 5–10 emails per day for new sending domains.
- Not misrepresent who you are or why you are contacting the recipient.
Enforcement
Violations of this AUP may result in:
- Warning and request to cease the prohibited activity.
- Temporary suspension of account features (e.g., outreach disabled).
- Permanent account termination without refund for severe or repeated violations.
- Reporting to law enforcement if the violation involves illegal activity.
We reserve the right to determine, in our sole discretion, whether a use violates this AUP.
